Examinations at se ra
Young monks come before elder monks to be tested. They bring the texts they have memorized with them, and place them before the elder monks. The elder monks then choose a passage at random, reciting the first few lines. The younger monk must then continue the recitation to demonstrate that they have memorized the material.
