This large apartment compound, located on the central sand street, belonged to the Zhungpa Regional House (gzhung pa khang tshan). It contained two or three stories of monks’ living quarters on different sides, all surrounding a large central courtyard. An enclosed “balcony” with windows located in one corner of the compound may have been the residence of a lama (bla ma), senior teacher or administrator.
