This new st?pa (mchod rten) was built by some of the elder monks of Sera (se ra) in honor of the former abbot of the monastery, the Mongolian Geshé Senggé (dge bshes seng ge), a renowned scholar of the Samlo Regional House (bsam lo khang tshan) who died in the 1990s. It is the former site of the Jé Bumkhang (rje ’bum khang), a structure that contained 100,000 pressed clay tablets (tsa tsa) of Jé Rinpoché (rje rin po che), aka Tsongkhapa (tsong kha pa). The latter structure was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.
