This regional house (khang tshan) was completely destroyed, and was rebuilt from the ground up by the present Dakpo Rinpoché (dwags po rin po che), who has his residence in the regional house. The first Dakpo Lama (dwags po bla ma) came to prominence after the death of the Thirteenth Dalai Lama. The restoration work on the compound began in 1992 and was completed in 1995. The new compound has three wings of two-story rooms around a central courtyard, with the regional house temple completing the square on the northern side.
Dakpo was one of the subsidiary affiliate houses (mi tshan) of the Bati Regional House (sba ti khang tshan). The new Dakpo Regional House contains some beautiful murals and statues (all of them new). Statues of the Thirteenth Dalai Lama and of the Radreng Rinpoché (rwa greng rin po che) are found on the altar not because they belonged to this regional house, but because both of these figures were born in Dakpo. There is also a fine statue of the Jé (byes) tutelary deity Hayagr?va on the main altar. The ma??ala of Avalokite?vara on the ceiling of the clerestory is of especially fine quality.
