Description:
Trekking in Tibet appears to be a solid manual for a focused audience: trekkers. Although most parts of Section I could prove useful to any type of tourist in Tibet, Section II (a majority of the book) gives very practical descriptions for those who wish to camp and travel extensively throughout the country, but lacks detail in the description of the various destinations. Thus, one who wishes to have a comprehensive view of the various locales before traveling to them may be frustrated by this book. The preparation section at the beginning is very comprehensive and the historical/cultural background at the end will offer brief, but interesting insights from McCue and Ramble. Also, Section II provides valuable information regarding distances and travel times between destinations. While Trekking in Tibet is by no means an all-encompassing travel guide, it appears to explore its intended focus quite well. (Bill McGrath 2008-02-04)
