A research note on Nepalese immigrants in the United States. The Nepalese immigrants in the United States comprise a comparatively small community, representing the diversity of Nepalese ethnic backgrounds. The research reveals that the earliest Nepalese visit to the US as a non immigrant was during the 1940s and a Nepalese first obtained permanent residentship in 1952. The increase in the number of Nepalese immigrants began only after 1956/57. The article also discusses the main deterrents for earlier Nepalese immigration into the US. It includes a table illustrating Nepalese immigrants admitted to the US from the beginning to the year 1993. Though the Nepalese immigrants have different mother tongues, Nepali is the primary language of communication among most of the Nepalese in the US. There is a trend among Nepalese males to return to Nepal to find bride. The article finds that Nepalese immigrants are close to Nepali social and cultural organization.
