Description:
The article compares the problem of Bhutanese refugees with the Tibetan refugees in Nepal. The problem of Bhutanese refugees is one of the latest burning issues for Nepal, whereas Tibetans mainly entered Nepal in the years after 1959 and is not seen as a bigger problem today. The article classifies the refugees sheltering in Nepal as being within two broad groups - those with Nepalese ethnic origin and those with other ethnic origins. On the basis of this classification, it is seen that Bhutanese are Nepalese in ethnic origin and Tibetans are of other ethnic origin. The article mainly analyzes the size and distribution of the camps for Bhutanese refugees and includes a table illustrating these. There is also a table containing a comparison of Bhutanese and Tibetan refugees in some selected categories. (Rajeev Ranjan Singh 2006-10-10)
