Language of title: English
Author/Creator: Janice Sacherer
One Sentence Summary: The article is based on the botanical collection made by the author in Rolwaling and covers the high altitude ethnobotany of the Rolwaling Sherpas.

Description: The article is based on the botanical collection, particularly medicinal plants and poisons, made by the author in Rolwaling and covers the high altitude ethno-botany of the Rolwaling Sherpas. Around 297 different species of plants were identified from this altitude zone, and the local Sherpas had names for about 150. In the article, medicinal plants and poisons have been grouped together in a classification because they are grouped together by the Sherpas as well. The article concludes that the ethno-botany of the Rolwaling Sherpas is a rich one. The author claims that utilization of the natural resources and their management will lead to economic development. The plants are listed in a table as edible, medicinal, etc., with their family, scientific name, and local names. (Rajeev Ranjan Singh 2007-01-17)
