The article discusses the controversial death of Dharmadev, one of the Licchavi Kings and the father of Manadeva I. The article examines some of the evidence on the sudden death of Dharmadev. Many articles assume that Dharmadev was killed by his son Manadev unknowingly. The article examines the different chronicles and stone inscriptions relating to this matter. The author puts forward a disclaimer that this article is not aimed at maligning the image of Manadeva. The contribution of Manadev in maintaining national integrity, upgrading the economic life, art, architecture, and literature must be highly appreciated. The article reveals that the sacrifice of Dharmadev was for the sake of the common welfare of the people.
