The first part contains five chapters on 1. Methodology and Background, 2. Mahāyoga's Doxographical Position within rNying-ma, 3. Legends and History of Mahāyoga, 4. Mahāyoga Literature, and 5. the Philosophy of Mahāyoga. The second part of the dissertation is a translation of 'Jigs-med-bstan-pa'i-nyi-ma's important general commentary on the Secret Essence (Tib. gsang ba'i snying bo, Skt. guhyagarba), The Key to the Treasury (Tib. mdzod kyi lde'u mig).
