The following list details some of the text editors used in THDL work and their pros and cons. These editors can be used to edit CSS, JS, PHP, and HTML files, plus even XML and XSLT.

JEdit

Pros:

• Unicode-enabled
• Tag completion
• Syntax Highlighting for CSS, JS, HTML, XSLT, and XML.
• XML plugin for validation

Cons:

• Does not display Tibetan stacks properly because Java-based program does not interface with Uniscribe on Windows.
• Slow to load, CPU hog. Sometimes locks up.

PSPad

Pros:

• Unicode-enabled
• Plug-in for tag completion (need to press Ctrl+. to close last open tag).
• Syntax Highlighting for CSS, JS, HTML, XSLT, and XML.
• Lots of editing functions in menus.
• Help > Online Tools gives a list of a variety of useful validators and inspectors, such as link-checkers etc.
• Quick to load. Not a resource hog.

Cons:

• Does not display Tibetan at all. Only certain fonts are enabled.
• No immediate XML validation.

This editor is useful for PHP, CSS, JS, and HTML files that don't contain Tibetan script. It's quick and efficient.

TextPad

Pros:

• Quick to load.
• Syntax highlighting.
• Tools for compiling Java included.

Cons:

• Not Unicode-enabled really only a few code pages entered in.

NoteTab

Cons:

• Not Unicode-enabled.
