Status Report on the Audio-Video Collections Project
Last Updated: August 13, 2008.
THL's Audio-Video collections are extensive and varied. They include a great number of transcripts of the original Tibetan speech, many of which are translated into English. At present they can be viewed at http://www.thlib.org/avarch/mediaflowcat/.
We are currently working on a powerful new Media Management (MMS) system to republish the audio-video collections within THL. The new MMS system will add a number of powerful new features. Firstly, it will provide place-referencing by means of the THL Place Dictionary, so that users can easily consult all recordings available from a given place. Secondly, it will provide online synchronized transcripts of speech, which can also be viewed as subtitles. Thirdly, it will enable searching of transcripts. Fourthly, it will have a much more fully implemented tagging of recordings by subject keywords, so that users can easily find affiliated recordings.
The new MMS system for video should be online no later than September, 2010.
