Nepal Census Data - Historical & Cultural Geography

Brief Introduction

This three-step tool allows you to select 2001 census data based on different classes (e.g., Marital Status, Economic Activity, Literacy, etc.) for each of Nepal’s Village District Committees.

You can download data in a variety of formats: Excel, PDF, text file, or HTML table.

Nepal Census Data 2001

These census data were extracted from the disc “National Census 2001,” which was produced by the Department of Statistics of His Majesty’s Government, Nepal. Members of the Digital Himalaya team used Microsoft Excel to sort census data for Nepal’s seventy-five districts down to the level of Village Development Committee (VDC, which number 3900+). Through the data finder below, 1991 and 2001 district-level population data are also available. This same data can also be found at www.cbs.gov.np.

Step 1: Select Village Development Committee(s) by searching through these districts.

Click on a district name to open its list of VDCs, from which you can make selections and move on to Step 2. Clicking district name again will close it.
